Our Approach

The Union City Family Center provides an innovative community school model. As the anchor organization for over 40 regional partners, we collaborate with educators, employers, public officials, social service providers, and community residents, to provide an integrated system of care, utilizing evidence-based practices, to support our community from cradle to retirement.

"The (UCFC) project and the model have garnered best practice status, as evidenced by improving student success. Healthy stable parents can raise healthy and academically successful students. Union City Family Center offers all this and more."

For 10 years, we have had a significant impact on our region and community.

Our agency has been a responsive community partner, meeting the needs of individuals and families within our community. We have exponentially expanded and refined our services to support the needs within our community since our founding nearly 10 years ago, and have support nearly 3000 individuals annually, and have provided services to over 20,000 people. We have grown to a vast collaborative of more than 40 agencies, expanding partnerships for a collective impact to effectively address regional needs. Working with our partners, we help address urgent living needs such as food, clothing, and housing; provide afterschool and summer enrichment and academic programs; provide community support for parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers; support vision and oral health care for K-12 students. Together, we empower and engage individuals and families to plan for a successful future.

Engaging and Empowering Our Community to Thrive

We started as the Union City Kids’ Zone, a city-school district partnership to address achievement gaps, health disparities, food security, and economic opportunities. Today, we continue to support school attendance, achievement, family engagement, and site-based health supports. We also provide the community with urgent living supports through service partners located throughout Southern Alameda County.
